WEST NEW YORK — A motion filed by West New York Mayor Silverio “Sal” Vega’s attorneys Friday resulted in postponement of yesterday’s scheduled start of jury selection in the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him in 2008 by a former city employee, according to NJ.com. Vega is trying to dismiss the case completely, the story said.
However, by the end of the day yesterday, Judge Hector R. Velazquez had denied Vega’s requests to dismiss the case.
The sexual harassment case was filed by the town’s suspended chief financial officer, Daniel Maloney, in Hudson County Superior Court in November 2008, and alleges that Maloney was suspended from his position in August because he rejected advances from Vega.
The town’s petition to the state on Nov. 26, 2008 sought immediate suspension without pay and revocation of Mahoney’s CFO certificate on the basis that he alleged made unauthorized payments to a contractor and allegedly failed to keep adequate records.
