Ballroom Dancing with James Festa returns
Weehawken Recreation is offering a 10-week ballroom dancing program with James Festa beginning Feb. 2. Classes are every Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Senior Nutrition Center at 203 Highwood Ave.
All ages are welcome, including high school students who want to learn some dance steps before prom.

Brian Stack, ex-wife put to ‘shame’ in TV report
Fox 5 News’ popular “Shame on You” investigative program ran a segment Wednesday night looking at the use of Union City vehicles by local officials, at least one of whom did not officially work for the city.
The segment began by pointing out that Katia Stack, ex-wife of State Sen. and Union City Mayor Brian Stack, uses a city-owned vehicle in her job working for a Union City day care facility and for personal use. The day care facility is private, but rents space in a city building at no charge.
Stack said in the segment that the vehicle is used by the day care for the benefit of the children. He said that he and the commissioners set the example by not being assigned city cars. However, the segment stated that they had footage of Stack using a city car many times, and that he was being driven around by a city employee.
The segment was part of an investigation the program said it conducted in the fall, including several days of surveillance. Reporter Arnold Diaz said in the segment that after Stack found out they were using surveillance, Union City police approached his producer.
Stack said in the segment that the complaints were political, likely coming from political opponents who couldn’t beat him at the ballot box.
Katia Stack also served as a city finance officer in Hoboken for a time.

NHCAC offers free dental exams as part of national ‘Give Kids a Smile’ program
A s part of the national “Give Kids a Smile” program, children between the ages of 3 and 12 can receive free dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatment, and dental education on Friday, Feb. 4 at North Hudson Community Action Corporation Health Center, 714 31st St. in Union City.
The free dental services will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We are very pleased to once again partner with the New Jersey Dental Association (NJDA) in providing these valuable free services,” says Christopher F. Irizarry, president and CEO of North Hudson CAC. “Dental health is an important part of every person’s overall well-being, and this is especially true for young children,” he adds.

Workshop for veterans’ history project
U.S. Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), along with New Jersey veterans and others, will take part in a workshop to further the oral history of wartime stories on Monday.
The event, held at Rutgers University Student Center on Jan. 31 at 11 a.m., is a part of Lautenberg’s collaboration with the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project, which has a goal of preserving the stories of American veterans.
NJMC presents ‘Animal Junction’ Feb. 5
The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission is offering “Animal Junction: The Zoo that Visits YOU” on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m.
Open to all ages, “Jungle Joe” of the Bucks County Zoo will give participants an up-close look at the wildly cool and unusual traits of 15 live animals, including mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds. Admission is $5 or $4 for members.
