Funeral services were held Jan. 15 at St John’s Church, Lakehurst, for Walter A. Martone, 82. He died at home Jan. 11. He worked as the general manager for AC Chevrolet in Jersey City for 35 years and as a master automobile painter and custom specialist prior to working for Stop and Shop in Lakewood for 10 years. Born and raised in Jersey City, he resided there for most of his life before moving to Manchester 12 years ago. He served in the U.S. Army during Korea from 1946-48. He enjoyed spear fishing and scuba diving and was an instructor and worked with police in rescue and recovery. He also enjoyed cooking and creating new recipes while doing so. He was a Leisure Knoll Neighborhood Community Caretaker for many neighbors with odd jobs and helped show and sell homes. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Nina Rifici Martone; two sons, Walter E. and partner Marc Kimball of Springfield, Vt., and David and wife Jean of Westfield; a daughter, Lynn Ann Melian and husband Hector of Aberdeen; and three grandchildren, Andrew, Cara, and Angelica.
