NORTH BERGEN – This week’s North Bergen Reporter includes a story about the township’s plans for awarding tax abatement agreements to developers. Through these agreements, developers can pay a certain annual amount to the municipality rather than conventional taxes. North Bergen’s goal is for the developers to agree to pay a percentage of their property’s gross revenue. In the story, Township Administrator Christopher Pianese was erroneously quoted as stating, “The minimum I would collect if we are successful in our negotiations is 5.25 percent…” of a certain developer’s gross revenue. This should have been a minimum amount of $525,000, which would equate to 11 percent in that case.
