A funeral service took place Jan. 8 at Monumental Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Jessie Mae Johnson, 83. She passed away Jan. 1 at her home. Born in Vivian, W.Va., she spent most of her adult life in Jersey City. Jessie loved wearing hats, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family and friends. For 60 years, she was an active member at Monumental Baptist Church in Jersey City which was her greatest love beyond her family. Jessie has joined her husband James Wilbert Johnson Sr.; daughter Priscilla Odoms; son Victor Johnson; grandson Jonathan Odoms; great-grandson Kevin Odoms; and Aunt Carrie Jones. Jessie leaves to mourn: sons, James (Jeff) and Edward (Slack) Johnson; daughter-in-law Mary Johnson; granddaughters, Angela McKnight, Yvette Washington, Tameka Allen, April and Laura Odoms; grandsons, Anthony and Lucas Odoms; 14 great-grands; 10 greatgrand-grands; friend Robin Ransom; and a host of relatives, church family and friends.
