JERSEY CITY – Dozens of security officers working in Jersey City buildings were planning to rally Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. in front of the JP Morgan Chase building at 575 Washington Blvd.
The security officers are members of the Service Employees International Union 32BJ affiliate, which represents building service workers in the New York City area.
According to a 32BJ press release, the rally “will demand better wages and benefits and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s struggle for civil rights and economic justice.” Eugenio Villisante, a spokesperson for the union, said security officers are paid as little as $11 an hour working in corporate buildings such as JP Morgan Chase building.
Scheduled to join the security officers is Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, Hudson County Freeholder Bill O’Dea, and state Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell. – Ricardo Kaulessar
