HOBOKEN – A long fight to approve the Board of Education’s choice for schools superintendent in Hoboken seems to have come to an end.
Dr. Mark Toback, the current superintendent of the Sussex County Vocational School District, and the Hoboken Board of Education have reached an agreement that satisfied Essex County Education Superintendent Dr. Lawrence Feinsod, who was charged with approving the contract because the Hudson County superintendent of education is serving on an “acting” basis. The Board of Education votes on the contract on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at 1115 Clinton St.
Sources say Toback will be hired at the cap put forth by the state and will be paid $157,500 annually. However, five merit based bonuses are included in the contract which, according to one member, could bring the annual salary to approximately $180,000.
The contract, if approved, hires Toback effective Feb. 1, 2011, or as soon as possible thereafter, because he must give his current employer 60 days’ notice. The contract runs to July 1, 2015.
