Registration for ‘Story Time Tuesday’ at library
Registration for the second session of “Story Time Tuesday” will begin on Monday, Jan. 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Weehawken Library. Only seven sports for the program are available, limited to Weehawken residents only, age 2 or 3. Children who do not make it into the session will be added to the wait list.
Registration may be done over the phone, (201) 863-7823, or in person at the library, 49 Hauxhurst Ave. Those interested must speak to Miss Donna during the following hours: Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If you are a first-time participant, you will need to bring proof of residency and the child’s birth certificate to the first class.
The first class for this second session will be held Jan. 18 from noon to 1 p.m.
Weehawken Weekenders announce upcoming events
The Weehawken Weekenders still have spaces available for the following upcoming events: An Evening at the Track at the Meadowlands on Friday, Jan. 21; NJ Performing Arts Center presentation of “South Pacific” on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 27; and “Oldies but Goodies Show” for luncheon and entertainment at the Brownstone on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 23. Transportation is included in some events.
The Weekenders are also planning their seventh cruise and third New Year’s Eve cruise. Deposits are now being taken for Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Sea departing Bayonne on Dec. 30, 2011 for seven nights to the Bahamas. Book early to protect the lowest possible price and receive $50 on-board credit. All deposits are fully refundable up until Oct. 1, 2011. Weehawken Recreation Dept. to host Feng Shui seminar
A free seminar for ages 17 and up on how to apply the knowledge of Traditional Chinese Feng Shui principles will be held Jan. 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Senior/Nutrition Center. Feng Shui is a system of arranging things that some believe can help increase your energy levels and help you to stay healthy.
Join Friday Afternoon Book Club at Weehawken Library
The Weehawken Library book club for adults meets for lively discussions on the second Friday of each month at 1 p.m. in the library’s Second Floor Reading Room. The next meeting will be held Jan. 14 when the group will be discussing “The Toss of a Lemon” by Padma Viswanathan.
NY Waterway offers real time transit updates
NY Waterway is taking the guess work out of commuting by offering real time traffic and major mass transit alerts on www.NYWaterway.com. NYC Traffic Alerts are updated Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The timely alerts focus on major thoroughfares from Manhattan to the Hackensack River, including the George Washington Bridge and Lincoln and Holland tunnels. The site allows visitors to view current traffic issues throughout the service area.

Discussing healthcare issues
Last month, more than 50 local residents and public officials gathered at Palisades Medical Center for its 2010 Community Meeting, where they discussed the state of healthcare in our region and the PMC’s ongoing plans to serve the community’s needs.
The meeting allowed residents the opportunity to hear from the PMC executives and board.
