Dear Editor:
As another year draws to a close, we at the Symposia Community Bookstore would like to thank the community of Hoboken and especially former mayor David Roberts and his family for the unconditional support throughout this year.
The Symposia Community Bookstore Project has expanded greatly since it first opened its doors on Washington St. six years ago under the patronage of mayor Roberts. Now, in addition to providing books for the community at reasonable prices as Hoboken’s only bookstore, Symposia continues its mission of community building through the various events and groups it nourishes: conversation groups, community workshops, workshops and activities for children, poetry open mics, book readings, concerts, a spirituality group, and even a guitar circle and a book club. The bookstore also hosts fundraising events for other non-profits that are of relevance and importance to the community, such as Habitat for Humanity and the Make a Wish Foundation.
Over this past year alone, Symposia has seen the community embrace the project more than ever with the number of people it serves more than doubling. And it is with a grateful heart that we once again thank former mayor David Roberts for making it all possible. Thanks to his generous contribution Symposia has been able to survive during these challenging financial times. His tireless commitment to serving the Hoboken community is a quiet inspiration to us all.
Thank you again to all for choosing to support Symposia, and we look forward to another year of working with you to continue fulfilling our mission of serving and building the Hoboken community.
Kindest Regards,
Carmen and Cornel Rusu, Directors
