Suspect arrested in connection with downtown JC shooting

JERSEY CITY — Jersey City police arrested a man Wednesday morning in connection with one of the several shootings that took place during the New Year’s Eve/Day weekend.
According to a police report, Larry Jackson, 18, of Beacon Avenue was arrested at his home as a suspect in a New Year’s Day shooting at the Candlewood Suites Hotel on Second Street in downtown Jersey City.
The victim was shot once in the groin and treated at the Jersey City Medical Center, according to the police report.
In the report, police responded to a call around 4:10 a.m., where the victim told police that he was at a New Year’s Eve party with his brother and four females when he saw a man standing inside the room where the party was taking place. According to the report, a fight ensued between the suspect, the victim, and the victim’s brother. The suspect allegedly followed the victim and his brother into a bathroom, where the suspect allegedly demanded money. The report then said the suspect allegedly pulled out a silver revolver and pointed at the head of the victim’s brother. The victim then told the police, the report says, that when he saw the suspect allegedly put his finger on the trigger, he wrestled for the gun and the suspect allegedly pulled the trigger, with one round striking the victim in the groin. – Ricardo Kaulessar
