JERSEY CITY – Members of the Lincoln High School football team came out on Thursday to help organizers at the Booker T. Washington housing complex in downtown Jersey City with their annual toy/clothing giveaway for tenants.
Hundreds came to the complex’s community room to receive footballs, dolls and games as well as coats and gloves. Among them was 12-year-old Jermaine Rogers, who got a football for himself and a snowboard for his brother.
“It’s good to see someone doing something for us in the community,” Rogers said.
Devon Nichols, one of 10 Lincoln football players accompanied by their coach Robert Hampton, appreciated being of help.
“I feel nice doing it for the kids because when I was growing up I didn’t get all that I wanted, and it’s great seeing the kids faces,” Nichols said. – Ricardo Kaulessar
