Meeting regarding uptown projects scheduled for Jan. 10

HOBOKEN – Get ready to ring the new year in with…community meetings!
After the council approved a contract for Remington and Vernick at the Dec. 15 meeting to design park spaces at 1600 Park and Hoboken Cove, the city will hold a community meeting to solicit input for the designs on Jan. 10 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Wallace School Gymnasium, 1100 Willow Ave.
The meetings are the continuation of plans which will eventually lead the parks opening in Fall 2011, according to Zimmer. She said the uptown project is something that is “desperately needed” by the city.
Hoboken Cove is east of Park Avenue and north of the Hudson River Waterfront walkway, north of the Tea Building. 1600 Park is located north of 16th Street between Willow and Park avenues.
An environmental cleanup of 1600 Park is complete, according to the city, and they are now awaiting approval from the Department of Environmental Protection that the remediation is complete.
According to a city release, the city has a $1 million Green Acres Grant for Hoboken Cove, as well as $237,000 for open space funds toward the construction of a boathouse.
“An additional $1 million Green Acres grant will go to fund 1600 Park, along with a $700,000 Green Acres loan which may be forgivable and approximately $200,000 remaining from a Hudson County open space grant,” according to a city release.
