Even in this electronic age, crafts are thriving. The third annual Holiday Craft Fair at the 56th Street Senior Center showcased the work of talented artisans and gave the public an opportunity to see beautiful creations, talk to the artists, and buy gifts for moderate prices. Many of the participating artists appreciated the skill of others, and supported each other by buying the handmade work.
In early December, we were privileged to display unique crocheted necklaces, excellent photographs of Bayonne, handy henna candles, paper-quilled pictures, handwoven scarves, and various knitted and sewn items, along with gourmet baked goods.
It is our tradition to charge no entry fee for participants, and have free admission for visitors. But our event is not for charity or fundraising. Our goal is to encourage the finest quality crafts, and to give craftsmen the opportunity to be respected and rewarded for their work.
We want to overcome Jon Stewart’s image of Bayonne by showing the high artistic level in our city.
We thank all the hard working seniors and our visitors who cooperated to make the show a success.
