JERSEY CITY – Jersey City police planned to rally Wednesday in front of City Hall at 5 p.m. before the City Council meeting.
The police are concerned over the city going ahead with 82 layoffs of police officers with three years or less experience. Negotiations between the two parties broke down over concessions city officials wanted from police officers to avoid layoffs such as police paying for their uniforms.
Jerry DiCicco, president of the Jersey City Police Officers Benevolent Association, in a press release said his union offered suggestions for revenue such as imposing a public safety fee on properties receiving tax abatements in exchange for the city delaying layoffs for two years, but the city could not give a guarantee. – Ricardo Kaulessar
