Hoboken resident files to run against Councilwoman Mason in May election

HOBOKEN – The new year has not yet begun, but already, a Hoboken resident has filed some preliminary election forms to run against Councilwoman Beth Mason in the May 2011 election for the 2nd Ward seat. Six of the nine seats will be up this spring.
Thomas Greaney filed forms with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC).
Greaney, a frequent council meeting attendee and often supporter of the administration of Mayor Dawn Zimmer, filed a Certificate of Organization and Designation of Campaign Treasurer and Depository form with the state on Nov. 22 for the May 10, 2011 election. Mason announced in late October that she would run for office once again in May, but has yet to file ELEC paperwork.
Greaney could not be reached immediately for comment.
Councilman Peter Cunningham and Councilman Nino Giacchi are the only two other residents of Hoboken who have filed ELEC paperwork for the May 2011 elections. — Ray Smith
