Community meetings for Western Edge of Hoboken kick off Dec. 8

HOBOKEN – It’s the project that keeps coming back.
Community meetings will be held this week to discuss redevelopment plans for an 11.4 acre area on Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe streets, from Ninth Street to 14th Street, better known as “the western edge.”
In 2007, a new redevelopment plan for the area was rejected by the community because there were concerns about the height of buildings and inadequate amounts of open space.
In September of 2010, a new plan was unveiled, but did not receive high marks from residents at a public meeting because some believed the market was not right for the amount of business proposed, and there were further concerns about open space.
Later in September, the City Council voted to table the proposed plan before they could send the recommendations to the Planning Board.
Beginning on Dec. 8, community members will be able to provide more public input.
The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 8, and will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the Wallace School gymnasium, 1100 Willow Ave.
The second meeting will take place on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hoboken Public Library, 500 Park Avenue.

The format of the meeting will be workshop style, as residents can come and go at any time during the meetings to make recommendations. A brief discussion will be held near the beginning of the meeting, but then community members are invited to visit different tables and talk to city officials about the project.
