Mayor Zimmer on ‘Cake Boss’ spinoff: ‘I’m not comfortable being on top of a cake…’

HOBOKEN AND BEYOND — No, she’s not baking for a chance at $50,000, but Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer will make an appearance on the new Cake Boss spinoff “Next Great Baker.” The new reality show premieres this Monday, Dec. 6 at 9 p.m.
Zimmer said she filmed her scene earlier this year.
“I wanted to promote Hoboken,” Zimmer said. “I interviewed finalists who had to design a Hoboken-themed cake for myself.”

The show is a spinoff to the Hoboken-based reality show “Cake Boss,” featuring Carlo’s Bakery on Washington Street. Both shows appear on The Learning Channel.
On one episode, Zimmer judges two cakes that incorporate her likeness into them. “I’m not comfortable being on top of a cake,” she told the Reporter last week in a story (see link below).
The cakes didn’t feature flooding, Frank Sinatra, a road collapse, or a baseball field, but rather, the two cakes judged by Zimmer featured the mayor herself included in the dessert. Zimmer said there were three contestants left, so expect to see the episode later in the season.
The new show features 10 bakers competing for $50,000 and a job with renowned baker Buddy Valastro at Hoboken’s Carlo’s Bakery. To read our weekend story about the appearance of Zimmer and Jersey City resident Greggy Soriano, click HERE. – Ray Smith
