Sonic Drive-in opens on Dec. 1
After months of anticipation, Bayonne residents will get a taste of Sonic Drive-In’s famous cherry limeades, real ice cream, tater tots, and foot long quarter pound coneys. On Wednesday, Dec. 1, the Bayonne drive-in will open its doors and welcome customers to enjoy the Sonic Drive-In experience.
To celebrate the grand opening, Sonic will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Dec. 1. Local dignitaries, including Mayor Mark Smith, will join franchisee Dina Santarelli for the ribbon cutting celebration. The Bayonne drive-in will officially open for business at 9 a.m. The drive-in’s hours of operation are 6 a.m. to midnight everyday.
In addition, the drive-in will donate a portion of its sales on Dec. 1 to the Bayonne Police Defibrillator Fund.
Tree-lighting with Santa Claus at Fitzpatrick Park on Dec. 6
Mayor Mark A. Smith said that the City of Bayonne will hold its annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in Fitzpatrick Park on Monday, Dec. 6, at 4:30 p.m. The park is located on Avenue C, between 26th and 27th streets.
“This ceremony marks the official beginning of the holiday season for our community,” Smith said. “ I would like to invite the public to come to this event, which helps all of us get in the holiday spirit.”
The mayor will light the municipal tree, which is an 18 foot Douglas Fir. The tree will be adorned with multi-colored miniature lights. Mayor Smith will offer brief remarks. City Council members and other municipal officials will take part in the ceremony. Peter Amadeo, supervisor of recreation, will coordinate the program.
The Bayonne Recreation Division’s pre-school carolers will entertain the crowd with holiday music. The teachers of the pre-school students are Edith Balint and Donna Kilmer.
Santa Claus will come to the park during the event, and will distribute some seasonal goodies to the youngsters.
The tree will illuminate the park throughout the holidays. Mayor Smith thanked the Public Works and Parks employees for preparing the park and other municipal facilities for the holiday season.
