Blogger crosses the line? How did you vote?

Last week, we asked you the readers in an online poll whether or not Zoning Board member Nancy Pincus crossed the line with a Nazi parody post on her blog. The poll elicited a strong response early in the week then quickly swung in the other direction. Did someone vote more than once? Probably. Chanukah is early this year!

The Jewish festival of Chanukah begins this coming Wednesday night, Dec. 1.
Chabad of Hoboken will once again host a Family, Chanukah celebration on Sunday, Dec. 5th at Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St.
The children’s segment of the program begins at 4:30 pm inside City Hall and includes ‘The Miracle of Chanukah’ with the Small Wonder Puppet Theater, arts and crafts, music and more.
The lighting of the Grand Public Menorah takes place outside of City Hall at 6 p.m, and will include the distribution of Latkes, Donuts, Chocolate gelt, dancing and more.
The Chanukah for Young Jewish Professionals (21-40) event takes place in the Chandelier Room of the acclaimed W Hotel on Tuesday, Dec. 7th. The event will feature an open bar, sushi and a chance to meet, mingle and have a great time!

Hoboken Ski Club to host 20th anniversary party

On Dec. 3 the Hoboken Ski Club is scheduled to host its 20th anniversary and holiday party at the Hoboken Elks Club.
Current, former, or potential members are invited to celebrate the 20 years of skiing, snowboarding, and socializing of the club.
The event will run from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m., and include $60 covered gourmet catering, a five-hour open bar, DJ, and dancing. There will also be charity raffles for great prizes, including lift tickets and gift certificates to favorite restaurants in the area. Ten dollars from each ticket will be donated to Toys for Tots. Additional unwrapped toys will also be accepted. Dress code is smart/dressy casual.

City Clerk and police officer honored by Puerto Rican Cultural Committee

City Clerk James Farina was honored at the 5th Annual Puerto Rican Cultural Committee which was held last Friday in Wood-Ridge. Other recognitions were for Lucy Durando for Latin Educator of the Year; Noelie Caban, Annette Crespo and Delia Rodriguez for Business Women of the Year; Hoboken’s Josue Velez, for Latino Police Officer of the Year, and Nestor Matos for Latino Fire Fighter of the Year.

Hoboken library to host program about Haiti

The Hoboken Public Library will host a program about the state and future of Haiti on Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Hoboken Public Library. The program is entitled “Why Couldn’t Haiti Be Rescued?” and will feature several presentations and a panel discussion from experts in fields of academia, human rights, health, film, and journalism. In addition, the discussion is geared toward “What it takes to put Haiti on the right track.” This presentation can help the community understand the state of Haiti and what can be done to move forward in a positive direction. Reality spinoff: Jersey City man will compete to assist Cake Boss

Greggy Soriano from Jersey City will be competing on the new TLC series “Cake Boss: Next Great Baker.” The series is a spinoff of the popular reality show “Cake Boss,” which follows the exploits of Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken.
Hosted by Buddy “Cake Boss” Valastro, the eight-part competition elimination series has 10 aspiring bakers competing for a coveted position at Buddy’s bakery and a cash prize of $50,000.
The series premieres on Monday, Dec. 6 at 9 p.m.

Woman apparently commits suicide at Pier C Park

Published reports say that a 40-year-old Belleville woman died on Nov. 20 after jumping into the water from Pier C, the new park in Hoboken.
The woman was born in Gujarat, India, but lived with her husband and children in Belleville, according to information on the internet.

Jamie Ross teaches wire art at Hoboken library

Looking for a unique do-it-yourself holiday gift? Local arts educator Jamie Ross will teach the art of making a bendable wire bookmark at the Hoboken Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. The program is open to older children through adults.
