Father of alleged WNY murderer arrested; suspect still on the loose, believed to be using brother’s name

WEST NEW YORK – Marco Silva, the 52-year-old father of the alleged murderer of a West New York man, was arrested on Tuesday for hindering apprehension of his son, according to the Hudson County Prosecutors Office.
Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said that Marco Silva, who lives in Newark, allegedly wired money to his son, Arthur Silva, on Oct. 17 while he was hiding out in Miami Beach. On Thursday, DeFazio said that members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force continue to take part in the nationwide search for 20-year-old Arthur Silva, who is still on the run.
Last month, investigators had tracked Arthur Silva to a hotel room in Miami Beach, Fla., but by the time they arrived, Silva was gone. According to DeFazio, Arthur Silva, who is considered a “dangerous” fugitive, may now be using the name of his brother, Diego Pontes Silva, as an alias.
Arthur Silva, who most recently resided in Cliffside Park, has been on the run since the Oct. 7 murder of 23-year-old West New York resident Spencer Hernandez, who was killed by a single shot in the back after he was lured outside of his home by a phone call.
Arthur Silva is also charged with allegedly attempting to murder two other people that night, but investigators have not released those names.
According to DeFazio, Marco Silva, who is currently being held in Hudson County Correctional Center, is a Brazilian national who is allegedly in the United States illegally. DeFazio said that U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has been notified and will likely begin deportation proceedings.
Although officials were not able to say how many of Silva’s other family members may reside in the area, DeFazio said investigators do believe there are individuals who have further information about Arthur Silva’s whereabouts and about the night that the murder took place.
Anyone with information on the murder or the whereabouts of Arthur Silva, who may be using the name Diego Pontes Silva, should call the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Squad at (201) 915-1345.
