Monday evening Hoboken City Council meeting – Watch it here!

HOBOKEN – The City Council will convene for a Monday evening meeting instead of the usual Wednesday gathering because the League of Municipalities, which brings many city employees to Atlantic City for the annual conference, takes place later this week.

The meeting will be the first time newly-elected Councilman Tim Occhipinti sits at the council table, and will feature a ceremonious swearing-in of the 4th Ward representative. Occhipinti was officially sworn in last Monday.

The City Council will also address a proposed complete waterfront inspection which would cost $450,000.
Occhipinti will waste no time getting to work on the council, as a resolution put forth by the new councilman will designate Jackson Street Community Garden to be named after its founder, Marjorie J. Laue. Other resolutions have been put forth by Councilman Dave Mello which would support the “Surrender Your Permit” program and the “Twenty is Plenty” initiative. The Surrender Your Permit program promotes the Corner Cars initiative, and Twenty is Plenty promotes cars driving at 20 mph, even though the city speed limit is 25 mph.
An ordinance which would strengthen the Corner Cars program by creating permanent spots in the city for as long as the program exists is also on the agenda. The council is expected to address an issue with Pier C playground equipment in closed session at the end of the meeting. – Ray Smith
