Worker severs four fingers

Saw accident in NB

According to Commander of the Detective Bureau Lt. Frank Cannella, a 26-year-old North Bergen resident accidently cut four fingertips off while working on Nov. 10.
Cannella said that the man, who was working at 3200 Liberty Ave., which houses several businesses, was cutting a piece of wood on a table saw when the wood “kicked back,” but the forward pressure of his hand caused four of tips of his fingers down to the first knuckle to be severed.
His coworker transported him to Meadowlands Hospital, where North Bergen Police were called. Police were not sure if the man had undergone surgery.

Snack stand worker allegedly fights cop

A 50-year-old man working a snack bar at North Bergen’s Bruins Stadium was arrested last weekend and charged with aggravated assault against a police officer.
Cannella said Police Officer Anthony Sirri was patrolling Bruins Stadium on Nov. 6 around 8 p.m. during a football game when he heard yelling and witnessed people fighting by the concession stand area.

Sirri separated a woman from the concession stand worker, Juan Orozco, of North Bergen. Police said the woman claimed that Orozco allegedly grabbed her 10-year old son by the arm and pulled. Cannella said there was a witness who confirmed this account.
When Sirri asked Orozco to step outside of the stadium and leave the snack stand, he allegedly refused.
“Apparently the officer had to go in and physically prompt him along,” said Cannella. “That’s when the defendant turned to the officer [and allegedly said], ‘do not touch me’ and pushed the officer in an aggressive manner,” said Cannella.
Cannella said this was when Sirri noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.
Cannella said that Orozco continued to allegedly shove and push the officer until he was forced to tackle him to the ground in order to arrest him.
He said that Orozco suffered a small cut above his right eye, which was treated at the scene.
The woman who alleged he had grabbed her son declined to file a complaint against Orozco.
He was charged with aggravated assault against a law enforcement official, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
His bail was set at $5,000 with no ten percent option.

Man found in car

Nelson Antonio Hernandez, 32, of Fairview, was arrested on Nov. 2 after a Bailey’s Fitness gym member walked out of the gym only to find a man sitting in his driver’s seat.
According to Cannella, when the victim left the gym he noticed that something wasn’t right when he realized the brake lights of his 2009 Honda Civic was on. Then he realized that a man was in his car.
Cannella said that when the victim opened his door and told the man to get out of his car, Hernandez allegedly tried to get him to fight.
Instead, he called 911 and held Hernandez down until police could arrive.
When they arrived, they noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage allegedly coming from Hernandez’s mouth. Cannella said that there were no signs of forced entry or damage to the vehicle.
Hernandez was charged with burglary and his bail was set at $10,000 with no ten percent option.
