PRESTON, GEORGE W

Funeral services were held Nov. 2 for George W. Preston Jr., 87, formerly of Jersey City. He died Oct. 27. He was a retired captain of detectives in Keansburg, a member of the N.J. State Police Benevolent Association Local 68, New Jersey State Police, and Fireman’s Association Inc. Local 22, New Point Comfort Fireman’s Association and First Aid Department, and the former president of the Keansburg Board of Education. Years ago, he had trained with the Jersey City Police Emergency Squad. He served as a sergeant during WWII in the Marine Corp, and was command sergeant Major E-9 in the Army Reserve at Fort Monmouth, past commander of American Legion Wilbur J. Price Post 29, Association of the U.S.Army Florida Gulfstream Chapter, American Legion Post 0038, Fort Myers, Florida, VFW Post 10127 and a member of the Elks Lodge, North Fort Myers Chapter 27. He was the husband of Irene Marie (Kryscnski); the father of Margaret Wall, Patricia and Angel Romero, Irene (Sissie) and James Howarden, Susan and Gene Morgenroth, George W. and Laura Preston III, and Dorothy (Dotsie) and Jack Coughlin; the grandfather of 12; and the great-grandfather of five.
