Teens arrested for possession of burglar tools, master key

Eighteen-year-old Alan Carcamo-Quiroz of North Bergen and a 16-year old from Union City were arrested on Oct. 25 after they were found to allegedly have burglary tools, stolen property, and a motor vehicle master key in their possession.
According to police, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded to a call of suspicious persons loitering near a vehicle in the vicinity of Liberty Place and Park Avenue.
According to a police report, responding officers saw the three alleged perpetrators dispersing in different directions. One of the suspects allegedly threw something to the side, which was later found to be a motor vehicle master key, and another was allegedly seen with various wires coming out of his pants pockets, which turned out to be part of a navigation system and iPod.
Carcamo-Quiroz and the 16-year-old were charged with receiving stolen property, possession of burglar tools, and possession of a motor vehicle key. Carcamo-Quiroz was also charged with hindering apprehension for allegedly providing false information about himself. Police said that the third individual was questioned, but not charged.

Hidden camera leaves residents with a not-so-fresh feeling

On Oct. 21, a resident of Highwood Terrace reported finding a hidden camera after taking a closer look at an air freshener that looked a little odd.
The residence, which police have since determined was an alleged illegal rooming house, consisted of two apartments using a shared bathroom. All of the four occupants were students from abroad.
According to police, after an investigation was conducted, Ming Hsun Yu, 28, of Weehawken was arrested and charged with four counts of invasion of privacy. Yu allegedly admitted to putting the camera in the air freshener as a joke.
Police said that Yu is the grandson of the landlord, both of whom also lived in the building. Detectives are now looking into other computer and technology equipment owned by Yu that was found as part of the investigation.
The building department was notified of the alleged illegal residence and the four tenants have all since been relocated at the expense of the owner.

Resident helps nab car burglar

William Dudek, 45, of Jersey City, was arrested and charged with burglary on Oct. 24 after a woman who saw him allegedly breaking into her roommate’s vehicle alerted police.
According to a police report at approximately 1 a.m., the woman and her roommate heard a noise from their window. When they looked outside and allegedly saw Dudek breaking into the vehicle, the woman called police and kept an eye on him until they arrived and she could point him out to the officers.
The car was ransacked, according to the police report, but nothing was taken.

Robbery between friends

On Oct. 20, Manuel Alonzo, 30, of West New York, was arrested on robbery charges after allegedly taking a wallet from a man he knew and then returning it.
According to police, at approximately 3 p.m., Alonzo went to a barbershop in Weehawken to confront a Union City man that worked in the establishment.
When the man came out, Alonzo allegedly asked for the man’s wallet and then hit him in the face, put him in a headlock, and took the wallet.
A few minutes later, according to police, he came back and returned the wallet, from which nothing had been taken. Although both men admitted to knowing each other, neither would discuss possible motivation for the incident with police.

Teens arrested after car alarm alerts officers

On Oct. 21 at 10 p.m., Officer Brian Mera, who is also a member of the Weehawken Volunteer First Aid Squad (WVFAS), and WVFAS Captain Gio Ahmad were standing near the corner of Hudson Place and Highwood Avenue talking when they heard a car alarm go off in the vicinity.
When the two men responded, they saw three juveniles allegedly walking away from the car. As they pursued the teens, the men saw them allegedly throwing some items away (including a car DVD player and red changing pad kit).
Although there were no items on the teens from the car the alarm had been set off on, they were allegedly in possession of property from other stolen cars.
Both teens, one from Union City and one from Jersey City, were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and obstructing administration of law for allegedly lying about their identification and the property they had on them.

Tourists arrested for domestic dispute while on vacation

On Oct. 25, police responded to the scene at the Sheraton Hotel where a couple was found arguing in the parking lot.
According to a police report, a boyfriend and girlfriend had a disagreement that turned violent.
Frederick Camire, 23, of Quebec, Canada, was arrested and charged with domestic violence and simple assault for allegedly choking and slapping his girlfriend.
According to police, the girlfriend is also from Quebec but does not reside with Camire.

Three arrested for drinking in public, two underage

Two Union City teens and a North Bergen man were arrested on Oct. 20 after they were found drinking on the steps off of Pershing Road that lead to the light rail station.
According to a police report, officers on patrol noticed three individuals allegedly drinking beer on the steps at approximately 6:30 p.m. and approached them.
Christopher Uriarte, 18, of Union City and Joan Veras, 19, of Union City were both arrested and charged with possession and consumption of alcohol under the legal age limit.
Mark Cordero, 22, of North Bergen, was arrested and charged for drinking in public and also on an outstanding warrant from Newton.

Car theft averted by passing police officer

On Oct. 21 around 2 a.m., an officer driving on patrol on Hackensack Plank Road passed a group of people standing around a parked gray Jaguar. As the officer passed, he watched the group in the rearview mirror and then made a u-turn. According to a police report, at that point the group scattered and a car with its headlights turned off came and picked them up.
When the car was observed closer, police found that the door handle of the car was damaged and the sunroof had been opened. Police said that the group got away, but the owner of the car was notified of the incident.

Drug arrest near school

Nineteen-year-old Jose Rodriguez of Union City was arrested on drug charges on Oct. 24 after he was found allegedly rolling a “blunt.”
According to police, an officer on patrol near the steps on Sterling Avenue found Rodriguez allegedly rolling a cigar with a leafy substance believed to be marijuana at approximately 8 p.m.
After Rodriguez was brought into custody and police performed a more in-depth search, they allegedly found six more bags of marijuana in his possession.
Rodriguez was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school.

Over $125K worth of goods reported stolen in residential burglary

On Oct. 18, police responded to a call regarding a residential burglary on El Dorado Place. According to police, there were no signs of forced entry, but several rooms had been ransacked during a narrow time frame in the morning. Over $125,000 worth of items were allegedly stolen. Police said that an outside agency was brought in to provide additional resources and they are actively pursuing leads in the ongoing investigation.

Desperately needed a cell phone charge?

Between Oct. 17 and Oct. 18, a 2006 Audi parked on Clifton Terrace was burglarized. According to a police report, the passenger window had been broken and a cell phone charger was taken from the car. Police speculate that the perpetrator may not have been in search of the phone charger specifically, but perhaps saw the wire and thought it was another electronic item.

Car stolen from Pathmark

According to a police report, on Oct. 16, sometime between midnight and 2 a.m., a Woodbridge man reported that a 1996 Honda was stolen from the parking lot of Pathmark on Park Avenue.
