Police respond to ‘report of shots fired’

According to Lt. Christopher Brignola, after police responded to Cottage Avenue on Oct. 24 around 2:36 a.m. on a report that shots had been fired, Miguel Ramos, 21, of North Bergen was arrested for possession of a weapon and Zohar Pumarol, 21, of Union City, was charged with obstruction.
When police arrived they saw Ramos, surrounded by a large group, allegedly place something near the curb and stand in front of it, Brignola said. Office John Floriani noticed it appeared to be a handgun. Police later identified it as a Daisy .177 caliber BB gun containing a full C02 cartridge.
Ramos was charged with possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. His bail was set at $1,500 with a 10 percent option by Judge Frank Leanza.
Brignola said that when police attempted to arrest Ramos, Pumarol allegedly tried to “physically interfere.” He was issued a summons for obstructing the administration of law and resisting arrest before being released.

Allegedly almost ran over, threatened officer

According to police Mario Rotundo, 42, of New Egypt, was arrested on Oct. 22 after he allegedly almost hit a police officer who was issuing him a summons with his truck.
Police said Officer Santos Benitez was issuing summonses to vehicles that were parked or idling in a no parking zone on Liberty Avenue across the street from Colonna Bros. Cheese, a parking problem police said has been ongoing.
One of Rotundo’s trucks for his business, Mat Trucking Co., was allegedly parked in this zone, and when Benitez began writing a summons out Rotundo came up to him and allegedly said that what the officer was doing was wrong. He then allegedly attempted to fold his license plate so that the Benitez wouldn’t be able to see it, jumped into the truck and reversed it backward into his driveway with the driver’s door open, almost hitting the officer.
When Benitez followed him into his business, he allegedly said, ‘Get the hell out of my business, if you don’t get out I will [expletive] make you,” said police. He also allegedly pushed and threatened to punch the officer.
Rotundo allegedly resisted arrest and refused to place his hands behind his back.
He was charged with terroristic threats, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of the administration of law. Judge Nino Falcone set his bail at $25,000 with no ten percent option.

Fingerprints led to burglary arrest

Emilio Rodriguez, 34, of North Bergen has been charged with burglary and theft after his fingerprints were matched with a September case under investigation.
Some time between Sept. 15 and 16 a Liberty Avenue home was burglarized and had $1,800 worth of property removed, including a laptop, two power drills, and a saw.
Det. Peter Insetta was able to lift a latent print from a basement bathroom window, which was sent to the New Jersey State Police Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
After police recently received the fingerprint hit and issued a warrant for his arrest, they learned that Rodriguez was already being held at the Hudson County Jail in Kearny after being arrested by the Jersey City Police Fugitive Squad and State Police on Oct. 4.
Police said that he had warrants out for his arrest from Wallington, Essex County and Hudson County.
He was charged with burglary and theft and his bail was set by Judge Joseph Romano at $2,500 with no ten percent option.
The State Police also charged him with hindering and resisting arrest, police said.
