EXCLUSIVE: Community cries out for more protection, end to violence in WNY

WEST NEW YORK – Early Friday evening, a group of West New York residents and concerned citizens from neighboring communities rallied on Park Avenue near 64th Street to protest the wave of violence they have seen in the area recently.
The grassroots effort was organized after a variety of incidents have taken place in West New York, including everything from robberies to murder, within a radius of just a few blocks.
“We need more protection,” said one woman as she spoke of the violent robbery that recently occurred against one of her friends. “We don’t have protection here. Today it happens to her, tomorrow it could happen to anyone.”
Participants in the rally cried out for “mas policia” or “more police” and urged passersby to demand increased police presence on the streets before the violence spreads even more.
