Mustard Seed School documentary explores ‘shared space’

Nov. 5th is the world premiere of a new documentary film by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Brian Fuller, “A Shared Space: Learning from the Mustard Seed School.” Education is at the forefront of the national conversation. Come see why one filmmaker chose to explore the education model at Hoboken’s Mustard Seed School. Screenings will take place at the Liberty Science Center at 4:30 p.m., 5:45 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Following a few select screenings across the nation, the film will be entered into film festivals over the next year before it is released. Free outdoor concert featuring “The benjamins” is on Sunday

A free outdoor concert featuring New Jersey’s hottest cover band, “the benjamins,” will take place this Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at 8th & Jackson streets in Hoboken. Open to the public, the event will include food from local favorite, The Taco Truck, and passed cocktails from the new West Five Supper Club.
The Hoboken Open House is being sponsored by Dean Geibel, developer of Metrostop, the new luxury condominium building located at 8th & Jackson Street.
Partygoers will have the opportunity to tour the building’s remaining homes and amenity spaces and receive special pricing, incentives and door prizes.

Doggy Howl-O-Ween Party on Oct. 30

Well-behaved dogs and their owners are invited to dress up in costume and attend a Howl-O-Ween celebration on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 2 – 4 p.m. in Church Square Park. The event will serve as a pet food and supply drive for the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City. The event will also include a parade, costumes, prizes, competitions for awards, and goody bags for participants. Admission is free, though participants are asked to donate unopened, canned or dry food for dogs or cats.
The following supplies are urgently needed: litter, towels, blankets and bathing supplies; household cleaners, including detergents and bleach; latex medical gloves and veterinary equipment. Gift cards to home improvement stores are also welcome. All items will be donated to the Liberty Humane Society.

Is it possible to build a mosque and bring a diverse religious community together?

Talking Through Walls will be shown on Nov. 7 at 3:00 p.m. at United Synagogue of Hoboken, 115 Park Ave. Following the film there will be a panel discussion with representatives of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities in Hudson County. Discussion will focus the events of the film within the context of the controversy surrounding construction of a cultural center and mosque in lower Manhattan. Produced and directed by Stephanie Daniels, a Jersey City resident, the film will be discussed by an interfaith panel. Panel Members include Rabbi Robert Scheinberg, United Synagogue of Hoboken; Imam Mohamed Al-Hayek, North Hudson Islamic Center; and Rev. Eugene P. Squeo, co-pastor, Parish of St. Patrick & Assumption/All Saints.
Hudson Jewish, a grass roots organization in Hudson County and United Synagogue of Hoboken will co-sponsor the event.
All are invited to participate. There is no admission fee but a $5.00 donation is suggested.

Roman Catholic Sisters will visit Sts. Peter and Paul Church

Roman Catholic Sisters from Vietnam and African nations will visit Sts. Peter and Paul Church on Nov. 7 at the 10:30 a.m. and noon masses. The Sisters will offer hymns, play instruments and speak about their missions in developing lands. The Sisters are students at Assumption College for Sisters, Medham.
