Cyberbullying poll results are in

In a Hudson Reporter poll featured last week in connection with the story “Sex, spies, and videotape,” we asked readers if they believed specific laws should be created to address online harassment and cyberbullying. Hague stories presented at dinner meeting

The University Club of Hudson County will hold their first dinner meeting of the 2010-2011 year on Thursday, Oct. 21, at Rita & Joe’s Italian Restaurant, located at 142 Broadway in Jersey City.
The dinner will commence at 6 p.m. and finish around 10 p.m.
The guest speaker of the evening will be Jersey City Historian and author Mr. Robert Leach.
The title/topic of his speech will be “Mayor Hague: the Untold Stories,” regarding the famous political boss, who served as Mayor of Jersey City from 1917 through 1947.

History rocks at cemetery

The Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery & Memorial Park Volunteers will host the History ROCKS!!! Festival from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery & Memorial Park. The event is an important season fund-raiser for the Cemetery Restoration Project, and is in celebration of the 350th anniversary of Jersey City.
The day-long festival will feature the BRAVO Battlefield Restoration & Archeology Team, who will lead an archeological dig demonstration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to identify “hot spots” for historic Revolutionary War artifacts. Participants can also view interesting historic Civil War exhibits and Civil War re-enactors. Also taking place are pumpkin decorating contests and other kids’ activities.
From 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., local bands and musicians will perform, featuring Nathan Carpenter, Darren Deicide, The Old Man & his Po’ Buckra, Mr. Indifferent, GREG GREG, and The Black Hollies.
At 7 p.m., the festivities continue with the 2nd Annual “Ghosts & Legends Twilight Tour,” which will guide participants through the candlelit and fog-filled ancient cemetery grounds to hear tales of history and mystery. Participants are welcomed to wear costumes. Food, refreshments, and crafts will be available for donations throughout the day.
A $7 donation for adults, and $5 for kids and seniors, is suggested.
The Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery & Memorial Park is located at 435 Newark Ave., Jersey City, directly across the street from Dickinson High School. The nearest cross street is Palisade Avenue. Limited parking is available, and the Memorial Park is a 10-minute walk from either the Journal Square PATH or the GROVE Street PATH stations.

Food-raising event to benefit food bank

The Essex County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and the honorary chairman, County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. are hosting a food-raising event at the Turtle Back Zoo Carousel, Northfield Avenue, West Orange, to benefit the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.
The event is taking place on Saturday Oct. 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Adult contribution is $10.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Brandon Sheer, along with Manny Scarpinato and Joey Jarroush. Unlimited carousel rides and complimentary child identification cards will be provided by the New York Life Insurance Company.
Canned foods will be accepted but no glass containers.
The Community Food Bank of NJ serves the following food pantries/programs in Hudson County: Old Bergen Church in Jersey City, Palisade Emergency Residence Corp. in Union City, Holy Redeemer Church in West New York, and Gospel Tabernacle Church in North Bergen.

Christ Hospital Foundation charity ball/fundraiser

The Christ Hospital Foundation will be hosting its Annual Gala on Saturday, November 6, at the Glenpointe Marriott in Teaneck, New Jersey. This is the largest fundraising event of the year for the hospital.
Special recognition awards will be conferred to Senator Sandra B. Cunningham, Dr. Munr Kazmir, and Sodexo Inc., for their support of and contributions to Christ Hospital and the community.
