Special Hoboken council meeting tonight, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. Watch it live right here!

HOBOKEN – Mayor Dawn Zimmer has called for a special meeting of the City Council for tonight at 7 p.m. to address three major issues: the adoption of the transition year 2010 budget, an agreement with the Housing Authority that would save five police officers from losing their jobs, and a resolution to forward the new proposed western edge development plan to the Planning Board for their review.

It has been 28 days since the introduction of the budget. Since that time, budget workshops have been held to work with directors on their individual department and budgets. Tonight the council will hold a hearing, and action may be taken to adopt the budget.

The proposed western edge redevelopment plan, introduced to the public on Sept. 14, may go to the Planning Board for a 45 day review, after which the board must tell the council whether to adopt the plan as an ordinance.

The proposed shared services agreement with the Hoboken Housing Authority would save five police jobs and station officers on the housing authority properties for an overnight shift.

There will also be a portion for public comment.
