JERSEY CITY – Residents helping in the revitalization effort of Jersey City’s West Side Avenue are kicking off things with a festival on Saturday.
The West Side Pride Day Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dairy Queen Lot (513 West Side Ave.), and highlights a week of cleaning up and beautification of West Side Avenue from Montgomery Street to Stegman Parkway. The festival is organized by the West Side Community Alliance (WSCA), and sponsored by the WSCA, New Jersey City University, St. Peter’s College and Honeywell.
The festivities include music and entertainment by local performers, and awards to the volunteers who helped in the cleanup. Balloon sculptures, face painting and treats for the children are also scheduled. Also, earlier in the morning, sidewalk planters installed last year with UEZ funds will be replanted with fall flowers.
Local officials who will be in attendance include Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy and City Councilman David Donnelly, who represents the area. – Ricardo Kaulessar
