Police arrest man for stabbing

Police: man is victim to random stabbing

North Bergen police arrested Angel Jimenez, 21, of West New York, for aggravated assault, among other charges, after he allegedly stabbed a man several times, said police. The victim’s friends, Dexter Debernard, 29, and Emmanuel Debernard, 22, of North Bergen, were also arrested for aggravated assault after allegedly retaliating against Jimenez.
Commander of the Detective Bureau Lt. Frank Cannella said that around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 11, a 22-year-old man from Iselin was exiting his vehicle around 78th and Broadway when Jimenez approached him on his bicycle, jumped off, and allegedly began to attack him.
The victim reportedly tried to ignore Jimenez, who allegedly threw his bicycle at him before coming up to him and punching him.
Cannella said that a “scuffle ensued,” then Jimenez allegedly pulled a butcher knife from the waistline of his pants and stabbed the Iselin man in the arm, back of the neck, and upper torso.
Jimenez fled toward Bergenline Avenue, when Dexter and Emmanuel caught up to him on 79th Street.

Cannella said that they allegedly kicked him repeatedly. Police found Jimenez bleeding from the head on the ground.
“We encourage our residents to call 911, to never take the law into their own hands,” said Cannella. “They were standing up for the friend and wound up getting arrested.”
Cannella said that Jimenez was not seriously injured, and was treated at Jersey City Medical Center.
Jimenez was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Police said he also had an outstanding warrant out of Guttenberg and Alpha, N.J., along with a failure to appear court notice from North Bergen.
His bail was set by Judge Nino Falcone at $100,000 with no 10 percent option and was remanded to Hudson County Jail in Kearny.
Dexter and Emmanuel were charged with aggravated assault and their bail was set at $10,000 cash by Judge Joseph Romano. Police said Dexter had a failure to appear warrant from North Bergen, along with two outstanding warrants from Milltown and South Amboy. Cannella said that he had an additional $4,081 in failure to appear fines from North Bergen.
The victim was taken to Hackensack Medical Center and has since been released.

Off-duty cop nabs alleged car thief
Police arrested Alan Amador, 37, of North Bergen, after an off duty police officer chased him on Sept. 10 for allegedly stealing a car. He was charged with burglary, two counts of theft, obstruction of the law, resisting arrest, and was issued summonses for careless driving and for striking two vehicles before leaving the scene.
According to Cannella, Police Officer Anthony Cirri had just finished his 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. shift and was on his way home when he witnessed Amador, wearing a bright yellow sweatshirt and black pants, at a car dealership lot on 46th Street and Tonnelle Avenue.
Police said the alarm was going off in the building when Amador allegedly jumped into a grey Honda Pilot and left the lot at a high-rate of speed, cutting across Tonnelle Avenue and almost causing an accident.
Cirri followed the vehicle, notifying headquarters, and witnessed Amador allegedly strike a vehicle in the area of 46th Street before hitting another on the corner of Cottage Avenue and 48th Street, which rendered his car inoperable. Amador then allegedly fled on foot.
Cirri caught up with Amador on 46th Street and Meadowview Avenue and identified himself as a police officer, but because he wasn’t in uniform, he could not pursue Amador after he allegedly took off into an alleyway.
When the K-9 unit arrived, they were able to track Amador back to his house on 46th Street, said Cannella.
“We found him hiding in a closet,” said Cannella.
He was charged with two counts of burglary because he allegedly broke into the dealership, stole the car keys, then took the vehicle.
His bail was set at $50,000 with no 10 percent option by Judge Nino Falcone, and he is currently being held at Hudson County Jail.
