Bayonne Town Center to host 3rd Annual Art Show

On Saturday, Sept. 25, the Bayonne Town Center will host the 3rd Annual Outdoor Art Show on 23rd Street between Broadway and Church Lane. Local artists as well as the Hudson Artists of NJ will display their work from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you would like to display your art work, please submit the following information to the Bayonne Town Center at 8 East 22nd St., Bayonne, NJ 07002: Name, Address, Type of Artwork, Telephone number and if you need a table to set up your work. Also submit a refundable deposit of $10. Please register before Sept. 20. In case of rain, the art show will be held in St. Michael’s Parish Hall. Kitchen fire extinguished

On Saturday, Sept. 4, the Bayonne Fire Department responded to a kitchen fire at 213 West 3rd St. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke in the building and flames traveling up the inside of a wall above the rear door of the first floor kitchen. Firefighters pulled a hose into the building, and broke open the wall to expose and quickly extinguish the fire. Fire Chief Greg Roger said the rear of building suffered smoke, fire, and water damage. The Building Department was called to the scene, and discovered an existing interior structural support condition that resulted in the structure being deemed unsafe. Six occupants were displaced. Rogers said the fire is under investigation

Murder charges may result from death of Bayonne man

A Bayonne man shot in the head during a Jersey City robbery on Sept. 4 died two days later, according to Police Chief Robert Kubert.
Charges already lodged against Larry Austin, 18, of Jersey City, are expected to be upgraded to murder as a result, according to a spokesperson from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office.
Jorge Cuadra, 24, of Bayonne was shot in near Communipaw Avenue in Jersey City during the early morning hours of Sept. 4 as the result of an alleged robbery attempt. More arrests are possible, the prosecutor’s office said.

Sanchez to name new vice chair of BLRA

Henry Sanchez, vice chairman of the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority, will replace Howard Fitch as chairman, and is expected to name his preference for the new vice chairman at the BLRA meeting on Sept. 16.

‘Elvis’ to perform at last classic car show of the year

Elvis Presley tribute artist Eddie O’Rourke will perform at the last show of the Liberty Class Car Club on Broadway near 18th Street on Sept. 16. The club will start displaying their cars around six p.m. O’Rourke is scheduled to start rockin’ around 7 p.m.

Community outreach crusade

Beulah Gospel Tabernacle Church will hold its first Community Outreach Crusade on Saturday, Sept. 18 in Arlington Park on Ocean Avenue in Jersey City from 1 to 6 p.m. The event will feature singing, preaching, teaching and personal testimonies. Clothing will be distributed to the needy as well. The event is designed to help curb gang violence in Jersey City, Bayonne and elsewhere in Hudson County.
