Press conference will call on Christie to restore education funding

JERSEY CITY — Thursday will be the first day of school for Jersey City students.
It will also be the day when concerned parents and community leaders will implore Gov. Christopher Christie to restore state school funding cut from New Jersey schools in the state’s fiscal year 2011 budget passed earlier this year.
A press conference will take place in front of Public School 15 (also known as Whitney M. Young Elementary School) on Stegman Street in Jersey City at 2:30 p.m.
The press conference is sponsored by Parents and Communities United for Education, a chapter of the Statewide Education Organizing Committee and member of the Better Choices for New Jersey Campaign.
A press release issued before the press conference said the speakers will express “disappointment” with area legislators state Sen. Sandra Cunningham and Assembly members Ruben Ramos and Caridad Rodriguez who supported the FY 2011 budget cuts.
