Hospitalized woman allegedly attacks nurses, cop

NORTH BERGEN – According to North Bergen Police Capt. Robert Dowd, Carol Sanchez, 25, of Guttenberg was arrested for aggravated assault against a police officer this week after she allegedly struck a cop.
Dowd said that a 27-year-old female police officer was at Palisades Medical Center for an unrelated reason on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. When she noticed two nurse aides and a security guard trying to subdue Sanchez, who was violently moving her arms and screaming, she tried to come to their aid.
That’s when Sanchez allegedly began to kick at the officer, hitting her several times in her abdomen and grabbing her right arm, resulting in a minor abrasion, said Dowd.
Dowd said that Sanchez was taken to the hospital after West New York Police found her allegedly intoxicated.
Sanchez was given medicine and subdued, before being placed under arrest. The North Bergen Police Officer remained at the hospital for prisoner watch for Sanchez, who was later released on a summons, said Dowd. – Tricia Tirella
