A mass of Christian burial was offered Aug. 9 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Mercerville, for Maxwell Frederick George Dorn, 92, of Hamilton. He passed away Aug. 4 at his home. Born and raised in Jersey City, Mr. Dorn had been a resident of Hamilton since 2002. He was a graduate of Dickinson High School, and as a young man, managed the Lincoln Theater in Union City. He worked for Bendix Aviation in Teterboro, as a design engineer, designing aircraft and submarine instrumentation. Five of his designs for illumination on panel instrumentation were patented. In his later years, he was the proprietor of Spindler’s Café in Jersey City, and owned an antique and repair shop named “Ye Old ‘n New Shop.” He was the son of the late Max and Julia Anna Dorn. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eda Frezzo Dorn; his sons, Philip Dorn and his wife Sandra, and Alan Dorn; his daughters, Carol Applebaum and her husband David, and Patricia Dorn; his grandchildren, Dianne Caretta, Michael Dorn, Michele Smith, Philip M., Philip A. Dorn and Jennifer Applebaum; his great-grandchildren, Kyle and Taylor Caretta, Amanda Smith and Alexis Dorn. Services arranged by the Saul Colonial Home, Hamilton Square.
