Hundreds of Guttenberg residents enjoyed a free summer concert along J.F.K. Boulevard East on July 28. Mayor Gerald Drasheff said that this concert, in which the Bronx Wanderers performed doo-wop music for residents, may have been the most popular yet, with around 700 residents attending.
The town’s summer concert series was started two years ago as a way to give back to the residents, said Drasheff. “It brings the townspeople together,” said Drasheff.
Drasheff said that all ages attended the event, from 7 to 70.
He said that the concert cost about $4,000 from the town’s budget, with the musical act accounting for $3,000 of that. While the Bronx Wanderers might not be well-known, he said that they are “just as good, if not better” than some of the other popular doo-wop groups, and not as expensive to book. The group performed in town last summer.
The next concert will take place Aug. 25.
