LEE, MALACHY J

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated July 26 at St. Dominic’s R.C. Church in Brick Township for Malachy J. Lee, 87, formerly of Jersey City. He died July 22 at the Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Mr. Lee retired in 1978 as Fire Chief of the Jersey City Fire Department. Mr. Lee worked as a fireman in Jersey City from 1949 – 1978. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II from 1943 – 1945 and was a Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Lee was a graduate of Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange and attended Seton Hall University in South Orange. He was a member of the Fireman’s Mutual Benevolent Association in Jersey City, Knights of Columbus Council 836 in Brick, Veterans of Foreign Wars also in Brick, and St. Dominic’s R.C. Church in Brick where he volunteered his time working bingo. Born and raised in Jersey City he moved to Brick in 1978. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen McCabe Lee in 2005 and brothers, Ernest, James and Peter Lee, and by his sister Sarah Cansdale. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Maureen and Michael Symczak and Kathe and Greg Morga, all of Brick; brothers, Ray Lee of Elizabeth, Robert Lee of Reading MA and Joseph Lee of Lacey Twp. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Mallory Symczak and Gregory Morga. Services arranged by the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.
