Palisades Medical Center expands emergency department

Palisades Medical Center recently announced that phase one of renovating and remodeling its Emergency Department has been completed.
Last year it began the project by incorporating a new Rapid Evaluation Unit (REU) to provide immediate assessment to incoming patients, which provided faster triage and bedside registration. The Emergency Department’s nurses have been working on reconfiguring workflow and augmenting patient privacy. Treatment areas have been expanded and new technical equipment has been installed to improve patient monitoring, reduce medical errors, and facilitate telemedical capabilities.
The new emergency room also features renovated patient rooms and waiting areas, a pediatric care unit, digital radiology, Picis computer systems, Spectra Link phones that provide immediate access to other caregivers, and Vital Works computer technology, which tracks patients’ status and tests after they have been admitted. Other updates also include an expanded patient treatment area outfitted with cardiac, stroke, ventilation, and special care technologies, as well as renovated staff facilities.
“All of the renovations will provide a better patient environment, increase capacity capabilities, improve community access, and enhance patient safety and the quality of healthcare delivery,” said Bruce J. Markowitz, President and CEO of Palisades. “We are committed to ensuring that every person who comes through our doors is treated quickly and effectively.”
The next phase of renovations includes changing how walk-in patients are given access to the E.R. waiting room, additional restroom facilities, and new storage areas.
