Question: In high school baseball and softball, are coaches allowed to hit the ball to defense in between innings?
Answer: Once the game has started, this is not allowed in the interest of safety. Following the third out of an inning, the defense coming onto the field has one minute for pitcher to complete five warm up throws. (BB – Rule 6, Sec. 2, Art. 2; SB – Rule 6-2-5)
Question: Do the rules require the coaching boxes to be occupied by a coach or player? Are coaches allowed to have a cane/walker/wheelchair while in the box?
Answer: It is not mandatory for the boxes to be occupied. The equipment listed above are legal devices. (BB – Rule 3-2-1; SB – Rule 3-5-2)
