SECAUCUS AND JERSEY CITY – Secaucus and Jersey City have joined several other towns in designating two locations as cooling centers for the elderly and other residents who need shelter from 100-degree temperatures forecast for Wednesday.
The Secaucus Public Library and Business Resource Center, one of the cooling centers, will be open on Wednesday, July 7 from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Town officials have designated the Senior Center as a Secaucus cooling center on Wednesday. The senior Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A three-hour power outage in the North End of Secaucus ended shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday night. Mayor Michael Gonnelli said homes were evacuated, “since we didn’t know how long the outage would last.” Evacuated residents were placed in the local public library, which the town is using as a cooling center during the heatwave.
