Local parks should be for local residents

Dear Editor:
I have been living in the “Hawk” for about 14 years and enjoy it so much I chose to raise my family here. My husband and I and our two children take advantage of the generous programs offered to residents and we spend time visiting the historic library, patronizing our emerging Main Street and enjoying our many parks. We rely heavily on our many neighborhood parks to provide us with a connection to nature, a place to exercise and a place to relax and admire the amazing views of NYC. My son who graduated from Weehawken High School two years ago is home from college for the summer break. He plays ultimate Frisbee and soccer and was very excited to play on the new waterfront stadium only to be disappointed to find that many days the field is occupied by out of town organizations. My three year old daughter enjoys the Tot Lot on Highwood Avenue but really prefers the expansive Louisa Park on Blvd. East.
This park is understandably crowded especially with older kids so we tried taking her there on weekdays but it was occupied by entire classes of out of town school children. I’m not suggesting that everyone shouldn’t enjoy all that this great town has to offer but I am suggesting that residents should be able to enjoy it more.

Sincerely,
M. Audy
