Former Hoboken councilman, sentenced for corruption, has resigned from sewer commission

HOBOKEN – After the Hoboken City Council passed a resolution June 16 authorizing the city attorney to take actions to remove Michael Schaffer as a commissioner and Hoboken representative on the North Hudson Sewerage Authority Commission, Corporation Counsel Michael Kates received a letter from Michael Schaffer’s attorney, Corinne Mullen, advising that Mr. Schaffer is resigning effective July 1, 2010.
The council appoints members to the authority and will be charged with finding a replacement.
Schaffer was sentenced on Monday for his involvement in a political corruption scheme including then-mayoral candidate Peter Cammarano. See our earlier news brief at www.hudsonreporter.com.
