A brief on page 2 of last week’s newspaper inadvertently misidentified the driver in a drunk driving accident in which a Bayonne resident won a $1 million settlement. The driver was Joseph Attisano, not Carlos Attisano.
Smith helps pay tribute to Bayonne Medal of Honor recipient
Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith, State Sen. and Union City Mayor Brian Stack, and Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer marched in the Hoboken Memorial Parade last week. Among those honored was Bayonne’s own Medal of Honor winner Nicholas Oresko, who at 94 was able to attend, but could not march. Oresko is the last living Medal of Honor winner from Bayonne
Students to put on original production at Bayonne High School
The Bayonne High School Arts Academy students will perform on June 10, 2010 an original show entitled Crossing Bridges. The performance will take place in the Alexander X. O’Connor Auditorium on Thursday, June 10 at 7 p.m. The script, music and sets were all created by the students of the Signature Creations Opera Company. Admission is free.
Bayonne Memorial Parade honors newly elected 2nd ward councilman
A special tribute was made to Councilman-Elect Joe Hurley at the Memorial Day parade thanking him for his long career in the Bayonne Fire Department from which he just retired, and his involvement as a coach in local sports for more than 30 years.
“This is my last parade as a firefighter,” he said during the march.
His father was also a former firefighter, and thus Hurley marched in parades even before becoming a firefighter. So he has marched in every parade for the last 50 years.
