JC peace group to hold rally, vigil tonight to remember those killed on Freedom Flotilla

JERSEY CITY AND BEYOND — Jersey City Peace Movement will be holding what they call “a peaceful, emergency rally and vigil” tonight for those people killed Sunday on the Freedom Flotilla. The vigil will be held at Congressman Steve Rothman’s office on Central Avenue in Jersey City Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
According to reports, the Freedom Flotilla — three passenger and three cargo vessels carrying over 600 passengers and 10,000 tons of aid to Gaza, a city located in the Palestinian Territories under blockade by Israel — was raided by Israeli forces to stop the ships from docking in Gaza, as Israeli policy calls for stopping ships from reaching the Gaza shore so ammunition or missiles can be prevented from coming into the port city.
However, the raid of the flotilla’s lead ship, Mavi Marmara, left at least nine passengers dead and at least four Israeli soldiers wounded.
The rally and vigil in Jersey City is one of thousands taking place throughout the world since Sunday to condemn the raid. — RK
