Keeping our senior residents safe and secure

Dear Editor:
We are pleased to announce that recently an 83 year old Jersey City senior resident was located within an hour after his family reported him missing at 3 a.m. in the morning. The Sheriff’s Office was notified that this senior resident left his home and notified the Sheriff’s Communication Desk. Immediately the GPS like tracking device was activated and the officers located this gentleman blocks from his home.
The Operation Lifesaver is available to Hudson County residents who are seniors or are suffering from an ailment that would make them susceptible to wandering away from their loved ones or caregivers. The bracelet is worn by the senior and is maintained by a small battery. If the senior goes missing and this information is reported to the Sheriff’s Office the device is activated and the officers in the street have the ability to track the person wearing the bracelet. The program is a public service and there is no cost to the family except the occasional replacement of the small battery.
If any family of an eligible senior is interested in Operation Lifesaver please contact the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office at 201-915-1300, Community Relations Unit.
It is our mission to assist in keeping our senior residents safe and secure.

Respectfully,
Juan M. PerezSheriff of Hudson County
