Opening Reception

James Ransome (left) one of the 13 illustrators for “Our Children Can Soar: A Celebration of Rosa, Barack, and the Pioneers of Change” by Michelle Cook spoke at the opening reception for a New Jersey City University exhibit that features all 12 of the original oil, acrylic, or watercolor paintings created for the book. Gathered with Mr. Ransome near his illustration were (from the left) Victoria Thompson, NJCU director of annual giving; Dr. Joanne Z. Bruno, NJCU interim vice president for academic affairs; and Christine Carmody-Arey, director of NJCU’s M. Jerry Weiss Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature, which is sponsoring the exhibit. The Center is named in honor of the NJCU distinguished service professor of communications emeritus and nationally recognized expert in the field of children’s and adolescent literature. The exhibit was shown through Wednesday, April 7 in NJCU’s Harold B. Lemmern Gallery.
