Jersey City resident Alexander Calderon, a photographer, was happening through Liberty State Park a week ago Sunday when he came upon Ramon Leonardo, who in a very windy afternoon was operating a hand glider in a section of the lawn to the east part of the park.
Calderone said, “He caught my attention since I saw him getting airborne a few times. Mr. Leonardo comes to the park all the way from Yonkers and he was practicing in a few techniques to polish his landing skills. I asked him if I could take some pictures and he agreed. He is about 150 pounds, and the glider, when the wind blew strongly, lifted him easily from the ground a few feet.
“Mr. Leonardo pulled some strings, and the glider collapsed, bringing him safely onto the ground. It was an interesting sight that I wanted to share with your readers. An activity that illustrates how diverse the park visitors can be.”
