A funeral mass was offered May 1 at St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Hoboken, for Sergio “Sam” Picca, 86, of Park Ridge, and Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Hoboken and Ridgefield. Sergio passed away quietly at the Imperial Point Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was an army veteran of World War II. Sergio was also a member of the International Union of Bricklayers. Born in Molfetta, Italy he migrated to Hoboken at the age of 14. Surviving is his wife of 60 years Sabina; his children, Joann Kotkin and her husband Al of Park Ridge, Isabel Verbitski and her husband Joseph of Quakertown, Pa., and his son Joseph and his wife Stacey of River Edge. Sam was a special grandfather to Adam and Megan Pappas, Jaclyn Verbitski, and Nicholas Picca. Also surviving is his brother Jerome; and three sisters, Lucy Picca, Gina Magarelli, and Mary Paparella.
