COCCARO, LOUIS J

A funeral mass was held May 1 at Ascension Church, Bradley Beach, for Louis J. Coccaro, 89. He passed away April 27 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was born in Jersey City and lived there many years before moving to Bradley Beach 15 years ago. A World War II veteran with the U.S. Army, 79th Infantry Division, he was the recipient of three battle stars as well as a Purple Heart. He took part in the D-Day invasion and later served as the post commander for the VFW.
Louis retired as a detective from the Jersey City Police Department. Louis was very civic minded and was a former Jersey City councilman, past chairman of the Jersey City Housing Authority Board of Directors, past vice chairman of the Jersey City Medical Center Board of Directors. He was the co-founder and past vice-chairman of Hudson Hospice and a past member of the Jersey City Board of Adjustment. Louis was currently serving as the vice-chairman of the Bradley Beach Planning Board and was running for the city council.
Louis was a communicant of Ascension Church in Bradley Beach. He was a husband, father and grandfather. He was well liked and will be missed by many.
Louis was predeceased by his wife Louise Coccaro and his grandson Joseph Urbanovich. He is survived by his son Frank N. Coccaro and his wife Maureen of Hasbrouck Heights; his daughter Louise Urbanovich and her husband Joseph of Rutherford; his grandchildren, Courtney, Frank Jr., and Brianne Coccaro, Michael, Nicholas and Paul Urbanovich; his brothers, Frank Coccaro and his wife Dorothy and Robert Coccaro and his wife Anne; and his sisters, Madeline Liberatore, Anna Barella and Frances Sbrocco. Services arranged by the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune.
