Yvonne Balcer says reject the school budget

Dear Editor:
The Jersey City Board of Education ballot asks a simple question – should the public raise $618,836,174 for the ensuing school year? While this amount is less than last year’s ballot question, in reality, it is a tax increase of $30 million since 2005 for local taxpayers.
Last year, this question passed, but unlike other communities, more than 25 per cent of Jersey City residents are exempted from the Board of Education taxes but they still have the privilege of raising taxes on the rest of us.
I urge homeowners who are facing a municipal increase, water increase, and PSEG increase to vote no on this question.
